What is the difference between metal qualities?
24 Karat Gold (24K) is pure gold (or 24 of 24 parts of gold) and is naturally a very soft metal. Therefore, it is alloyed with other metals for strength.
The alloying of Gold creates the following metal qualities:
18 Karat Gold (18K) contains 18 parts gold and 6 parts another metal or metals, making it 75% gold.
14 Karat Gold (14K) contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts another metal or metals, making it 58.3% gold.
10 Karat Gold (10K) contains 10 parts gold and 14 parts another metal or metals, making it 41.7% gold.
G19.2 is a low karat gold. Anything under 10K Gold (~42% fine gold) may not be labeled as a karat gold. G19.2 contains about 19.2% fine gold and other metals such as fine silver and palladium. In layman's terms, it is similar to a 5K Gold.
Double Gold-Filled (1/5 10K) is a layer of 10 Karat Gold bonded to both the front and back of a metal core.
Single Gold-Filled (1/10 10K) is a single layer of 10 Karat Gold bonded to the front of another metal.
Gold Electro-Plate (BGP or GP) is a gold electrolytically deposited onto another metal. Due to this process, the thickness of gold is significantly less then gold-filled. Gold Kase is Award Concepts' exclusive 24K gold casing.
Silver/Platinum (SSPt) consists of Sterling Silver and 3.5% Platinum. It has increased tarnish resistance and has a brighter luster than standard sterling silver
Sterling Silver (SS) is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver plus 7.5% cooper.
Silver Electro-Plate is a silver electrolytically deposited onto another metal.
